“Ago”, Romain C. Agostini, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, August 19, 2007 from complications of his illness. Ago began a difficult battle with cancer in 2006. He enjoyed a brief recovery from the treatment earlier this year when he had the chance to spend time with Ellie, family and friends, resume his art, and visit his parents in Luxembourg. In recent weeks, Ago battled unexpected complications resulting in a hospitalization and finally succumbing to the illness.
Throughout, Ago remained hopeful and optimistic. He exhibited great courage and determination. His love of life is a gift he gives us all. He has shared this with us through his incredible art, his special meals, his warm conversations, his brilliance and his ever present authenticity. He was a loving son, a caring partner, and a dedicated friend. He was a true renaissance man and will be remembered always with love and respect and deep admiration.
"... complex, authentic, gracious, sincere, artful, soulful, incredible integrity, cultivating community, introspective, kind, thoughtful, peacemaker, seeker of natural beauty, adventuresome, world traveler, gourmet chef, able to take the complex and make it simple, able to find incredible beauty in the mundane, intense, technologist and artist, explosive laughter, gentle, optimistic ... All magnificent and truthful descriptors of the man that we all came to know and love as "Ago". Tom, 27 August 2007, Ripon, CA.
"May we be so lucky to find in our lives the beauty that you found in your life through your eyes and captured with your camera. I hope to meet you again: at sunset, in the forest, in the landscape, in the mountains, by a lake, in a little flower in the desert, ..." Alexandra, 24 August 2007, Doha, Qatar.
"The memorial service for Ago was very special. So many people came forward to talk and share their memory of Ago. Most of us knew Ago through his work and what he contributed to the gallery when his work permitted. Yesterday, we heard so many stories from his friends and colleagues, and for those of us from gallery wishing we had known Ago better. Everyone agreed what a special man he was and how positive and genuine he was perceived by so many." Dana, 27 August 2007, Palo Alto, CA.
"I thought you would like to hear about today's mass for Ago in Luxembourg. There was a large attendance, over one hundred people. Ago's parents were both there. Both former Luxembourg counsels in San Francisco, Patrick Nickels and Bim Biever (with his wife Passi) were there. There was a large group of the Scouting friends (easily recognizable with their green scarves), as well as many other friends." Nadia, 24 August, 2007, Luxembourg.
